OLD TOWN, NEW LABEL

The Jenny Lind Inn and Property of the Lost Records announce a new collaboration imprint “Live at the Jenny”. It’s mission to bring some kick ass performances from both local and travelling artists to a wider audience. It’s a no frills all thrills establishment, where bands are paid from the bar takings rather than ticket sales. It’s testament to the support of the Jenny regulars and the wider music loving punters of Hastings & St Leonards that bands do well from the deal and the party atmosphere generated is not to be forgotten.

The idea came when local label Property of the Lost asked the venue if they could hire in some extra equipment to record a live set from Yorkshire “psych-surf” combo X RAY CAT TRIO.

The results exceeded all expectations. For us, nothing beats a great live album, and this recording had it all. Perfectly capturing three musicians at the top of their game. Playing to a truly appreciative audience.”

It got us thinking… “We really should do more…”

So, after a high-powered board meeting (aka some beers in the Jenny back bar) with manager Simon Kennedy and owner Kieron Canavan, this became a collaboration effort with its own Jenny catalogue number, paving the way for more live sessions to be immortalised in the album format.

THE GOAL. To spread the spirit of the Jenny Lind. From its home, in the heart of an English seaside Old Town, to an international audience.

THE HOPE. To document a series of live performances that fans will want to collect and keep. From folk ballads to riotous punk rock, these slices of musical history will reflect the diversity of the bands and the promotors who book them.

THE DREAM. To grow a reputation so righteous that artists make a bee line to play, and record for prosperity, their day at the Jenny.

In the week that The Music Venue Trust announced 125 venues closed for live music this year. Any action to shine a spotlight on the importance of grass roots establishments to the music economy of the future, HAS GOT TO BE A GOOD THING. RIGHT?
